ReplyDeleteAnonymous, perhaps you haven't actually taken the time to read through all the facts? As to whether or not you get functional sites through the links, we cannot guarantee that because the government has temporarily closed down all the education sites because of the government shutdown.

I've read some Common Core math problems, and even adult engineers said it's crazy math--so do I. So why did the math ISAT score rise? There must be a reason, and it's NOT because kids are comprehending math better with all the convolutions you have to go through to add 1+1. Any ideas? I'm positive, for example, that the way of grading changed over the last year. Anyone have any insight or concrete knowledge? I sure don't trust the people running Common Core!
ReplyDeleteI'm told, as a teacher, that the CCS are more rigorous. But, what I find is that the cirriculum is hollow. There's no real content, it's just skills students used to learn as they went on. For example, instead of students knowing Traits of Good Writing, the Writing Process, Parts of Speech, and Sentence Structure, they learn graphic organizers and are expected to produce a product like a machine.
DeleteAlso, try not to offend anyone in this politically correct world. You have to literally babysit all day. There's little discipline (that actually works).
I'm told that a student who is "special" can't receive an F. But I wonder if the kid is "special," or if he/she is just LAZY. There's NO PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND INDIVIDUALISM TAUGHT IN THESE CLASSES!!!!!!!!!!
Lastly, teachers STILL teach to the test because of the many assessments the students must take. SO, instead of spelling and vocab tests, etc., students are tested on "skills." Baloney.
We need someone to go in and compare the grading between the last ISAT and this. Something's fishy...

I'm a former student and current intern of a test prep and academic tutoring company called Ivy Bound. Here are some words of wisdom regarding common core courtesy of:

The genesis of Common Core is “No Child Left Behind”. NCLB was meant to address mediocre schools and NCLB has been a failure. 13 years later, the majority of mediocre schools then have not lifted their students to academic excellence.
But even if it were implemented well, NCLB and now Common Core exemplify playing to a LOW common denominator. The few No Child Left Behind successes have no effect on the better schools. So good schools get nothing from subjecting their students to a battery of NCLB tests. Mediocre schools get nothing either.
Bad schools get warnings they need to shape up. That’s it. The warnings come slowly, and the implementation can take years. NCLB doesn’t mandate a change until after six years. A majority of the under-served students are out of the program by then.
