ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, if it is not stopped at the state-levels, Common Core will be implemented everywhere in the United States. We have to get the word out about how dangerous it is!
Deletehttps://soundcloud.com/zavemusic/the-common-core-song starts with this may be?
DeleteChecking in from NY. I feel like I'm alone in this. Many parents I have spoken to have no clue what is about to happen. Would like to see other NY parents involved. Perhaps we can start a grassroots movement!!!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteMany of us have felt alone in this. But there are others in your state who are fighting already. I hope you are able to connect with them and get that movement started.
United we stand,
Jennifer
You are not alone. As the parent of a Catholic school student, I am totally disgusted that the NY Archdiocese has signed on to this program. I have tried contacting the supt. of schools regarding this and I have gotten no reply, nor do I expect one.
DeleteTeachers HATE it, and parents in the know hate it as well...I am planning a grassroots effort to get it out of the Archdiocese...anyone reading this, flood downtown with letters and phone calls.....
Good for you! May God bless your efforts. An American Priest in Rome
DeleteGood for you. As a Catholic school teacher for 35 years, I can't tell you how this is negatively effecting my classes. Education is being taken out of the hands of educators and into the hands of politicians and businessmen.
Deleteyou are not alone
DeleteI love your list....I hope it continues to grow state to state. Thanks much Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And thank you for joining in the fight for our children's freedoms and futures!

ReplyDeleteIs there any way you might be able to make this State by State (ALL 50) available to your viewers? It is a list of 50 BAT(BADASS TEACHERS) STATE FB GROUPS! I am in about 8 other groups in Ohio against Common Core....and have been for months...in 2 very brief weeks these BAT groups have made a ton of active "noise" against CCS but truly against the whole entangled mess of it all!! These groups have a great momentum going, but it needs to be bigger and more! There are also 2 National FB groups (BAT)Badass Teachers now at well over 20,000 members in 2 or so brief, but powerful weeks. And, (BAP) Badass Parents at a National level also. The main group has a presence online in other places also (Pinterest, Twitter, webpage, and so on). The list of addresses to the 'closed' STATE BAT FB groups is in alphabetical order in doc format...thank you soooo much! Here is the BAT STATE LIST: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hmOvg62rrPRuQfbFqRrJAZStVOxxlrn1FwWXM82BWEw/edit?pli=1
ReplyDeleteI would like to hear your comments on the fact that teachers are not allowed to see nor know what was on these tests. They sign a paper stating if they ask a student they can be fired. Also, how is it that a student who has never failed a math test holds a strong 94 average and has scored 4's (highest score)now scores a 2. When asked by his mother how was the test he stated that he knew everything except one question. Also, the entire class has 2's or 1's and previously scored 3's & 4's. Students and their teachers have NO idea why or how to fix it as they are not allowed to see what went wrong. It sounds impossible to this person! PS Teacher has taught for 30 years and is considered an outstanding teacher! Upset.
ReplyDeleteIs there an Arizona group that I can join?
ReplyDeletelooking for connections in Michigan. Thank you!

ReplyDeletePLEASE COMPLETE SHORT SURVEY EXPLAINED BELOW.
ReplyDeleteDear Teachers,
Thank you for your hard work over the last three years implementing the new Kentucky Core Academic Standards in English/language arts and mathematics and for the work that is currently underway to support implementation of the new science standards. These standards cross nearly every content area in some way, so all educators should have a vested interest in them even if they do not teach one of these particular subject areas.
As you may be aware, there has been pushback on the standards by some in our state who maintain a different ideology than the majority of those who support the standards. This small, very vocal minority has used misinformation and scare tactics to gain the attention of some Kentucky legislators in an attempt to change or overturn the standards when the General Assembly convenes in January, despite the fact that Senate Bill 1 (2009) mandated new, more rigorous standards, which these are.
The Kentucky Board of Education and the Kentucky Department of Education maintain support of these new college/career-ready standards and feel as if an effort to back away from them would be detrimental to our teachers, our students and our public education system. In addition, we are asking the General Assembly to provide more resources for teachers in support of the standards.
So, we are seeking feedback from teachers – ALL Kentucky teachers. I ask that you please complete a short, anonymous online survey about your beliefs and experiences with the new Kentucky Core Academic Standards. Here is a link to the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KCASeducatorsurvey.
The survey will remain open until December 15, but please do not delay in completing it. So that the results are truly reflective of teachers in our state and are not skewed by any special interest groups, I would ask that you please not share this link with anyone else. It is for teachers only.
You are the education experts in our state and it is vitally important that your voice be heard by legislators, parents, and the community at large. Thank you in advance for your time, your cooperation and for all that you do on behalf of Kentucky students every day.
Sincerely,
Terry Holliday, Ph.D.

7/7/15: The US Senate is debating S.1177 this week which will legislate CC standards and CC aligned tests for all public students in US. Also mandates all children are psychologically tests (data loaded in Gov/private databases. This renders all these choices moot. Please call and stop the bill: call: 202-224-3121 or Tweet Senators: http://patriotjournalist.com/CommonCoreAction.php?v=2Y
ReplyDeleteCommon Core is destroying confidence in children. I've worked with thousands of kids through Scouts, after-school programs, church groups and much more. A child will often become what they see themselves as being. Labeling themselves as failures at an early age because of a test that is inappropriate for that age is as wrong as it can be, even criminal. I'm a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and I'm fighting for our children!
ReplyDeleteGo to facebook, there are so many groups, in each state fighting to stop common core and the testing. Stop common core in New York state is a good group to start with. There are so very many and we need all the voices we can get.
